Shrek The Musical Brings Land of Far, Far Away to Carrollton Stage

The Carroll County Community Theatre’s Shrek the Musical transforms the Carrollton Center for the Arts into a fairy tale world, Mar. 14-24, where heroes are green and there’s more to a princess than meets the eye.

“Every year, the Community Theatre wows audiences with their spring musical,” said Carrollton Arts Superintendent Tim Chapman. “That tradition continues this year with the beloved tale of an ogre named Shrek. It’s a performance that will be enjoyed by the entire family.”

Shrek the Musical is the story of a green ogre whose beloved swamp is invaded by a gang of fairy-tale characters who have been evicted from their homes by Lord Farquaad. When Shrek agrees to help them get their homes back, Farquaad strikes a deal with the ogre. He’ll let the fairy-tale characters return to their homes if Shrek will rescue the pretty, yet mysterious, Princess Fiona.

“Shrek is a timeless tale of learning to love oneself and that true beauty comes in all shapes and sizes,” said Ginna Blair, the show’s director. “It has been a pleasure to work with such amazing actors who truly bring these characters to life.”

The production has a cast of more than 60 actors and a top-notch production team, including Musical Director Alison Camillo, Set Designer Tommy Cox and Costumer Mistress Mary McVey. An outstanding feature of the show is a 22-piece, all-star orchestra under the direction of Terry Lowry. It’s made up of members of the Carroll Symphony Orchestra, the Carroll Community Wind Ensemble and the Carrollton Jazz Orchestra.

Shrek the Musical is sponsored by United Community Bank.
